A charter serves as the official governmental permission for a medical
school and its faculty to teach the art and science of medicine, and
operate in that designated country.

Xavier University School of Medicine at Aruba (XUSOM at Aruba) is independently chartered by the Government
of Aruba of the Dutch Antilles.

| International Medical Education Directory (IMED) |
International Medical Education Directory (IMED) is a division of the
United States of America's Educational Commission for Foreign Medical
Graduates (ECFMG). An international medical school is now required to
be recognized by IMED in order for their student and graduates to apply
and sit for the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE).
Previous to the introduction of IMED, a medical school had to be
recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for these same
privileges. IMED listing is also a requirement for medical licensure in
certain states, independent of WHO recognition.
Students and graduates of XUSOM at Aruba are eligible to sit for any
step of the USMLE, in fulfillment of the ECFMG Certification
requirements for a U.S. residency.
NOTE - the XUSOM at Aruba IMED listing is also recognized by the
Medical Council of Canada (MCC) for certification and eligibility for
medical licensure
| |
| World Health Organization (WHO) |
A medical school's recognition and enlistment in the WHO's World
Directory of Medical Schools is still required by certain state medical
boards for medical licensure. This enlistment is no longer required for
an international medical student or graduates participation in the
USMLE.
XUSOM at Aruba has been approved by the WHO, and will be listed in
the next edition of updates to the WHO's World Directory of Medical
Schools.

to be eligible to apply for medical licensure to practice medicine in
the United States. ECFMG Certification is required of all
international medical graduates to be able to start medical residency
training in the United States.
The ECFMG recognition of XUSOM at Aruba enables the graduates of XUSOM at Aruba to be eligible
for ECFMG Certification,
and participation in U.S. medical residency training programs.
